
Nadia Ahmed Abdou, yesterday, became the first ever woman to be sworn in as governor in Egypt.
As part of a limited cabinet reshuffle, the mother of two was sworn in before President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi as the new Governor of Al-Buhaira in Beheira governorate.
Before her appointment, Abdou had served as the Deputy Governor of the state since 2013 and held the post of Director of Alexandria Drinking Water Company for a decade, spanning between 2002-2012.
Nicknamed “Iron woman,” the 1965 Alexandria University graduate of Engineering was also a member of the National Council for Womens’ Rights and the National Democratic Party headed by ousted President Hosni Mubarak.
Upon resumption of office, Abdou wants to turn Rashid into a tourist area as well as establish projects that will include schools, hospitals and universities.
