President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared that Nigeria has moved beyond its period of economic reforms and entered an era focused on shared prosperity.
In his Independence Day address, Tinubu said the reforms introduced by his administration had improved the country’s economic outlook, citing over four per cent economic growth, lower inflation, increased foreign reserves and a more stable foreign exchange market.
He said the government would now prioritise reducing the cost of living by lowering production and transportation costs, while expanding agriculture, infrastructure, industrialisation and digital connectivity.
Tinubu also pledged to create more jobs and expand opportunities for young Nigerians through industrial growth, skills development, access to finance and support for businesses.
He said the government would strengthen social protection, healthcare and education programmes while expanding initiatives such as the Nigerian Education Loan Fund and CREDICORP to support vulnerable and low-income Nigerians.
Declaring that “the age of reform has done its work,” Tinubu said, “Now begins the age of prosperity,” urging Nigerians to look forward rather than return to the conditions that necessitated the reforms.
