The Federal Government has launched the National Digital Alphanumeric Postcode System, assigning a unique 11-character digital postcode to every addressable building across Nigeria.

Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, said on Thursday that the system, operated by the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST), would improve location identification and support deliveries, emergency response, public services and e-commerce.

The GIS-enabled system identifies locations across five levels: state, local government area, district, area and building.

Tijani said accurate postcodes would help businesses reach customers, enable families to provide precise locations during emergencies and improve government service delivery.

He urged Nigerians to find and begin using their postcodes through the official Digital Postcode website.
