Zimbabwe’s president, Robert Mugabe, has said that his country is one of the most developed countries on the continent, second only to South Africa.
He made the statement on Tuesday during a plenary session at the ongoing World Economic Forum on Africa being held in Durban, South Africa.
“You don’t talk of us as a fragile state from an economic point of view. Yes, we have our problems but certainly we have achieved. We have our resources, perhaps more resources than the average country in the world,” a sickly-looking Mugabe said.
“Zimbabwe is not a fragile state, it is one of the most highly developed countries, second after South Africa,” he added.
The 93-year old leader, who has severally been criticized for wrecking Zimbabwe’s promising economy, is set to lead his ZANU-PF party as its presidential candidate in the country’s general elections slated to hold in mid 2018.
