A security detail attached to the Kogi State Government House on Monday night molested and beat Segun Salami, a Channels TV reporter to stupor.
Salami, who is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in Lokoja, the state capital, revealed that trouble started when he was wrongly accused by the security personnel of pointing at him while he was discussing with a female colleague who works with African Independent Television (AIT).
All attempts made by Salami to deny the accusation fell on deaf ears as the security agent, with the help of other agents, descended heavily on him, beat him to stupor and dragged him to the State House detention centre where he was locked up.
The State Commissioner of Police, Wilson Inalegu confirmed the incident, saying that investigations into the matter had commenced. He gave his assurance that the persons involved will not go unpunished if found guilty.
