Suspected Niger Delta militants on Monday reportedly ambushed and killed a civilian and four soldiers attached to the Joint Task Force (JTF) along the waterways of Letugbene in Ekeremor Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
According to the report which has been confirmed by the Chairman of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) worldwide, Central Zone, Mr. Tare Porri, the soldiers were overpowered by some armed men who seized their arms, moved them into the creeks and subsequently shot them dead.
“Two days ago, four military officers were killed in cold blood alongside another civilian. Military officers went to Letugbene community and on their way back, some persons accosted them and killed all of them,” Porri said.
He added that as a result of the incident, the military on Tuesday morning, invaded the communities and burnt down several houses in retaliation, an action which he claims is still ongoing.
