The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Mohammed Sanusi II and the National President of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Alhaji Muhammadu Kiruwa have commended the enactment of the Anti-Open Grazing Law in Ekiti State.

Speaking on Monday at Ado-Ekiti during a peace meeting at the Government House in Ado-Ekiti, the duo lauded Governor Ayodele Fayose for promulgating the law which they said would protect interest groups in the state as it caters for the well-being of all affected parties, especially the farmers, herdsmen and host communities.

A statement issued by Governor Fayose’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Idowu Adelusi said the Emir, who is a patron of MACBAN was represented at the meeting by former Kano State Governor, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, who is also the Sardauna of Kano.

The Emir expressed displeasure at situations where criminal elements in the country hide under the grazing of herds to carry out heinous crimes against innocent and unsuspecting Nigerian citizens.

“The law that Governor Fayose enacted is the best to defend the rights of farmers and cattle breeders. Whoever crosses the red line should be dealt with as the law provides. Breeders would obey the rules of the communities where they reside,” the Emir said.

Earlier in his speech, Governor Fayose announced amnesty for four hundred herdsmen whom he accused of terrorizing the state and expressed his willingness to pardon herdsmen who surrender their arms to security agencies in the state.
