There seems to be no end in sight to the renewed killings and destruction of property in Plateau State as gunmen on Wednesday attacked Dong, a settlement in Jos South Local Government Area of the State.
A resident in the community, Nanyah Raman told reporters that at least two houses and a number of cars had already been set ablaze by the armed assailants.
“As we speak, I can still hear sounds of gun shots from my house. We have been calling phone numbers of security personnel we know but to no avail,” she said.
The Police Command in the state has also confirmed the Wednesday morning attack, adding that a detachment of policemen had already been mobilized to the area.
“We have mobilized the entire Rantiya Division to the area, we hope that normalcy will be returned soon. People should not panic,” Terna Tyoper, the state Police spokesman said.
Reports say residents of Dong, which is located near the Jos Wildlife Park have already started evacuating their families and valuable property from the community.
The Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong had on Tuesday, through a statement released by his Commissioner for Information, Yakubu Dati expressed concerns over renewed attacks in the state and directed security agencies to arrest the situation.
