The Department of State Services (DSS) has announced the arrest of one Jonah Abbey whom it described as a notorious gunrunner along with his driver, Agyo Saviour aka Dan-Wase.
In a statement released on Sunday, the DSS said Abbey has been on its wanted list for over 10 years over trade in arms and ammunitions before his arrest on March 13 in Wukari town, Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The service said the gunrunner had been supplying weapons to criminal-minded individuals and groups in Bayelsa, Ebonyi, Rivers, Imo, Anambra, Plateau, Nasarawa as well as to the Benue/Taraba axis, including the notorious criminal syndicate led by Terwase Akwaza aka Gana in Benue State.
“It may be noted that subject entrenched his criminal activities in different parts of the country and as earlier mentioned, has clients especially in Plateau, Ebonyi, Cross River, Enugu and Bayelsa States among others.
“Indications are that he sources arms from the Republic of Cameroon, and parts of the North-East of Nigeria,” the DSS statement added.
The statement further revealed that fresh intelligence reports indicated that Abbey recently moved arms and ammunitions from Konduga in Borno State to Taraba State through his driver, Saviour.
