The Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu 1 says the people of the state will only support President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election bid if he grants the state special status before the 2019 general elections.
Akiolu, who stated this on Tuesday during a Town Hall meeting organized by the Lagos State Government in Apapa also blamed former President Olusegun Obasanjo for the state not being granted special status before now. He also condemned the Senate’s 2016 rejection of a bill to recognize the state as the nation’s commercial capital.
He urged President Buhari to revisit and consider the demand for special status for Lagos State, as it would make him enjoy widespread support among residents of the state.
“During the recent visit of President Muhammadu Buhari to Lagos, I wanted to tell him that it was God and All Progressives Congress, APC that helped to bring him to power,” Akiolu said.
“And he must satisfy Lagos. I expected APC National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to ask him for special status. I wrote to National Assembly that I want to present the Lagos case on the floor,” he added.
