The terrorist group, Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) is quickly losing territory in Iraq and Syria but gaining in Libya. This was revealed in an unreleased report by the United Nations.

ISIS which is a global threat, according to the report, has had military setbacks in Syria and Iraq.

The group has had a plunge in revenue from oil trade as a result of air strikes by the US-led Coalition. The UN Secretary General, Ban Ki Moon also declared in the report that the terrorist network still continues to enrich itself by taxation and extortion of citizens in territories it controls.

The report also claims that the group is seeking alternative grounds and a ‘real threat’ is imminent in Libya. It goes ahead to say that the organisation plans to use Libya as its base to spread into Africa.

In battling ISIS, Libya’s new government also faces a daunting task in trying to integrate several armed factions and militia. ISIS has its presence along some 250km of the Mediterranean coast on either side of Sirte in Libya and is fighting to extend it further.
