Dr Glory Umondak is a highly accomplished woman. Her achievements in the field of education as well as the public service stand tall. She retired from government service on a note of merit. Today, she runs her own school named Eminent Nursery & Primary School which is located in her hometown of Afaha Offiong in the Nsit Ibom Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
Glory Umondak was born on September 29, 1943. She did her primary school between 1955 and 1961 at Presbyterian School, Ikot Obong, Itu in Akwa Ibom. She therefore attended Rural Training Centre, Asaba where she got her General Certificate of Education in 1967. From 1968 to 1969 she was at Women Training College, Arochukwu in present day Ebonyi State where she earned her Teacher Grade II Certificate.
She proceeded to study at Wiley College, Mashall Texas, USA where she graduated with a B.Sc in 1975. That same year, she enrolled for a Master’s programme at Texas Southern University in Texas. She got her M.Ed in Primary Education in not yet satisfied with her educational pursuit, she went on to do a doctorate degree programme at North Texas State University (1976-1980). There she bagged a Ph.d in Early Childhood Education.
Dr (Mrs.) Glory Umondak began her working life as a Grade II teacher on January 1, 1979. She taught until August, 1972 when she went abroad for further studies. Between 1980 and 2000. She worked in various capacities ranging from Senior Education Officer to the peak of her civil service career namely Director of Education. Within this period, she was principal of Akwa Ibom State College of Art & Science at Nung Ukim, Ikono. She also worked as Director of Administration of the Akwa Ibom State Primary Education Board.
Dr (Mrs.) Umondak has over the years been honoured with various recognitions and titles. These include her being listed in Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. She is a member of the World Organisation of Early Childhood Education Programme (OMEP). She is a Distinguished Life Member of the National Council of Women Societies and she holds the Award of Excellence in Women Development presented to her by the National Council for Women Societies in 2010. She is also a proud holder of the PSR Development in Nigeria Merit Award.
Mrs. Glory Umondak holds the chieftaincy titles of “Adaidaha Ke Ntan Obu Ukpe-Eniong”, “Uforo Afaha Offiong-Nsit Ibom” and “Obong Emem Nsit Ibom”
