Mrs Mojirade Omolara Egungbohun

Mrs. Mojirade Omolara Egungbohun is a distinguished educationist and administrator. She is one of the few patriotic Nigerians who are working hard to advance the nation’s education sector. She is a born teacher and an expert in the grooming of young people. She is an Assistant Director and State Coordinator of the National Teachers’ Institute (NTI) in Osun State.

A proud old girl of the famous Queen Amina College, Kaduna, Egungbohun has indeed, contributed a lot to the effort to bring honour and respect to the teaching profession in the country. She is highly prolific and has been involved in the activities of NTI since 1994. Before then, she taught English Language and Literature in several secondary schools across the country.

Born on September 27, 1957 at Offa, Kwara State, young Mojirade was a pupil of Saint Mark’s Primary School Offa between 1963 and 1969. She obtained the West African School Certificate from Queen Amina College Kaduna in 1974 and subsequently enrolled at Offa Teachers’ College, Offa. Having completed her programme and earned the Pivotal Grade II Certificate, she proceeded to the Advanced Teachers’ College, Zaria where she obtained the Nigerian Certificate in Education (NCE) in 1980. She majored in English Language and History and also posted a Distinction grade in Teaching Practice. Not satisfied yet, she gained admission into Ahmadu Bello University Zaria in 1980 and graduated with a B.Ed (Language Arts) in 1983. She holds an M.Ed in Educational Administration and Planning from the University of Jos.

Mrs. Mojirade Egungbohun started her teaching career way back in 1980, when she was an NYSC teacher at Teachers’ College Jengre, Plateau State. She had taught at Government College Kaduna and Sardauna Memorial College in the same city before she joined the services of the National Teachers Institute in 1994.

Having started as Chief Education Officer, she was subsequently promoted to the rank of Assistant Director and State Coordinator in charge of Ekiti State in 2006. She came to her current position of State Coordinator in Osun State in February 2011. Her current job detail has several functions including that of representing the Director and Chief Executive of the body (NTI Kaduna) in Osun State. She is also responsible for the co-ordination of capacity building and training of primary school teachers in Osun State in line with the Millenium Development Goals. She acts as a Liaison Officer between the NTI and both the State and Federal Ministries of Education as well as other relevant bodies in the state.

She has authored so many journal articles and educational literature. She is a major contributor to the NTI Newsletter. She is the co-author of a very significant conference paper titled “Deregulation of the Provision and Management of Education in Nigeria”, which was presented at the National Conference of the Association of Nigerian Education Administration and Planning in Jos 2004. She has been involved in most of the workshops conducted by the Commonwealth of Learning, Vancouver, Canada since 2001. She was also at the British Council’s seminars on Writing, Editing and Production Skills for Teacher Development in 2004 and 2005.

This indefatigable teacher of our time is a member of several professional organisations including the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria, the International Reading Association, Newark, USA, the Reading Association of Nigeria and the Nigerian Association for Educational Administration and Planning (NAEAP).

Outside her professional engagements, she is a member of the Old Students Association of Queen Amina College, Widows Ministries, Kaduna Branch, Bible Society of Nigeria, Offa Descendants Union and the Mount Zion Global Ministries Kaduna State. She is highly computer literate and is knowledge in the use and application of various computer packages including Power Point, Software application, MS-Word and MS-Excel.

She has won many awards including the Teacher of Excellence Award by the World Bank, a Sourvenir of Distinction by His Riches Communication and Award for Excellent Christianly Conduct and Integrity in Public Life.

Mrs. Mojirade Egungbohun, a widow is blessed with three children.It is in recognition of her contribution to national development in the area of education that she was recently honoured with the PSR Woman of Merit Gold Award.
