A renowned sage once advised that when life throws lemon at you, you should endeavor to make a lemonade out of it. This saying typifies and aptly captures the life and efforts of Chief (Dr) John Holt Ologho.

Ologho, by dint of hard work, determination and astute management of resources has become a name to be reckoned with in the telecommunication industry as well as the oil & gas sector of Nigeria in the past 28 years.

Chief (Dr) John Holt Ologho attended Urhobo College Effurun, near Warri in Delta State. His career started with the then Post and Telecommunications Department, now Nigerian Telecommunications (Nitel). He was trained by Nitel Training School and obtained a Diploma in External Line Plant Engineering. He later proceeded to Sun & Sea Telecommunication Equipment Academy in China.

He was a pioneer Telecommunications Engineer at the Delta Steel Company (DSC), Aladja, near Warri, where he established, installed and commissioned a Science ESK 3000 Exchange as Clerk of Work. DSC also sent him on several trainings overseas; thus as far as 1981, John Ologho became a sought – after specialist in TV, Radio Communications, Exchange Maintenance and External Line Plant.

He was also the Project Manager for the installation and commissioning of all communication towers and RF/Microwave equipment in all NLNG sub stations – Saipem bases in Port-Harcourt, Rumuji, Ahaoda, Soku Gas Plant etc. John Holt Ologho is equally remembered as the engineer that installed and established the first microwave link for Chevron Nigeria Plc, which linked Warri, Escravos with their Lekki Head Office complex.

Chief (Dr) John Holt Ologho is a versatile and reliable professional in the telecommunication industry. He retired from Delta Steel Company as Head of Telephone Exchange in 1995. After his retirement, he went into private business where he has carved a niche for himself as a major player in Telecommunications, Oil & Gas, and other sectors of Nigeria’s economy.

In 2008, Ologho obtained a B.Sc. in Business Administration from Pebble Hills University, Hong Kong. He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Administrative Management of Nigeria (IAMN), Fellow, Institute of Technologists (CST) and Member, Nigeria Society of Commerce.

By dint of hardwork, great foresight, courage and robust business acumen, Chief John Holt Ologho has grown his private business from its humble beginning into a large outfit with interests and operations in various sectors. Today, Goholts Global Limited has become a holding company with other subsidiaries such as: International Telecom Equipment & Cable Coy (Infrastructure and Telecommunication Supplies), Optiroads Nigeria Limited (Manufacturing), Niger Delta Green Transport Ltd. (Transportation) and Time Up Security & Safety Limited (Security Services).

In recognition of the drive and achievement of this astute manager of men and resources, Chief (Dr) John Holt Ologho is the recipient of various awards and accolades from diverse organisations and institutions. Some of them are:

  1. Symbol of Hope for Niger-Delta Youths, by Niger Delta Intellectual Council for Good Governance (2004).
  2. Honorary Doctorate degree in Communication Sciences by Kingdom Life University, Lakeland, Florida, U.S.A (2015).

All these are testimonies and resounding proofs that Chief (Dr) John Holt Ologho and his businesses have gained recognition both home and abroad. In all ramifications, Ologho can be considered as having contributed his own quota to employment generation and the development of the Nigerian economy.

John Holt Ologho is happily married with children.

It is in recognition of his contribution to national development in the field of Telecommunication Engineering that Chief (Dr) John Holt Ologho is deemed worthy to be conferred with the Development in Nigeria Merit Award.
