Nigeria’s Flamingoes on Sunday failed to qualify for the 2018 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup to be hosted by Uruguay after they were held to a 1-1 away draw in the second-leg play-off round of the African qualifiers by Cameroon in Yaounde.
Having played out a 2-2 draw against the Cameroonians in Abuja a forth night ago, Sunday’s result ensured the Central Africans booked their ticket to Uruguay on away goals scored.
Alice Kameni had put the hosts in the lead with a 16th minute strike before Precious Vincent drew the Flamingoes level with eight minutes to the end of regulation time.
The Flamigoes, who have not missed out on any edition of the U-17 Women’s World Cup since its maiden edition in New Zealand in 2008, fought desperately in search of a winning goal but the resilient Cameroonians held on to secure Africa’s second slot at the tournament.
