Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki on Sunday banned the open grazing of cattle for 90 days in some communities in the state. The ban came less than two days after protesters stormed the Edo State Government House over the killing of a farmer by suspected herdsmen.

Obaseki said the 90-day period which will affect Odighi and Odiguete                                                          communities in Ovia North-East Local Government Area will be used to identify those lawfully allowed to graze cattle in the state to avert future attacks.

The Governor equally ordered security agencies and operatives in the state to arrest and detain any herdsmen caught flouting the order for prosecution.

Some residents of Odighi had on Friday last week taken their protest over herdsmen attacks to the Edo State Government House where they deposited the coffin of a pastor, Pius Eromosele of the Church of God Mission who was said to have been slain by herdsmen and dumped in a bush.
