The Nigeria Police on Tuesday confirmed the arrest of a female suicide bomber at the Bakassi Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
According to a statement released by Edet Okon, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Maiduguri, the suicide bomber was arrested by operatives of the Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) team at about 6:50am on Tuesday while lurking around the camp.
Okon disclosed that police officers cordoned off the area, diffused the Improvised Explosive Devise (IED) and apprehended the suspect identified as one Zara Idriss and kept her in their custody.
“On sighting the bomber, conventional policemen alongside the EOD team swung into action and cordoned the area, to prevent escape of the bomber into the city,” Okon told reporters.
He further called on members of the public to go about their normal activities without fear and to report any suspicious movement in their localities to security agencies to avert a future occurence.
