
The United States President, Donald Trump on Thursday revealed that five most wanted leaders of the Islamic State in Syria and Iraq (ISIS) have been captured in Iraq.
In a tweet released on Thursday, the US President said: “Five Most Wanted leaders of ISIS just captured!”
The high-ranking jihadist leaders were reportedly taken prisoners in a joint US-Iraqi operation as they attempted to cross the border into Iraq from Syria.
Reports say intelligence officers had tracked the terrorists, who were seen dressed in yellow prison uniforms and shown on Iraqi TV, for three months as they made their way through Turkey and Syria.
The ISIS commanders are reported to have featured in a series of gruesome execution videos posted online and filmed when the extremist group controlled large swathes of Iraqi territory.
Iraqi officials have described the ISIS commanders who were named as Saddam al-Jammel, Mohammed al – Qadeer, Ismail al-Eithawi, Omar al-Karbouli and Essam al-Zawbai as “some of the most wanted” leaders of the terrorist group.
