Eight members of the Benue State House of Assembly led by its impeached Speaker, Terkimbi Ikyange on Monday served an impeachment notice on Governor Samuel Ortom over alleged abuse of office and corrupt practices.
This is coming only a few days after 23 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members of the House impeached Ikyange. He was accused of failing to carry other members along in legislative activities.
The lawmakers who sat under the apparent protection of security operatives who only allowed entry for APC lawmakers loyal to Senator George Akume also suspended 19 members of the House.
Briefing newsmen at his Makurdi residence shortly after the sitting, Ikyange maintained that he remained the authentic Speaker of the House as his impeachment did not follow due process.
