Distinguished jurist and former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Aloysius Iyorgyer Katsina-Alu is dead. His death was confirmed Wednesday morning by the office of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, , Justice Walter Onnoghen.

Born on August 28, 1941, Justice Katsina-Alu hailed from Ushongo in present day Benue State.

He rose to the exalted position of Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in 1998. He eventually emerged as the 12th Chief Justice of Nigeria, a position which  he held between December 30, 2009, and August 28, 2011.
