At least 29 people have been confirmed dead after a cruise boat carrying party revelers capsized on Lake Victoria.
According to the Ugandan Police, the vessel was carrying close to 100 people when it sank on Saturday in Mukono district, located near the country’s capital, Kampala.
Deputy police spokesman, Patrick Onyango told reporters that the boat was overloaded under bad weather, adding that more than 20 people had been rescued from the water, with an unknown number still missing.
Ugandan media have also named a number of well-known people, including Prince Daudi Kintu Wasajja, a brother to the king of Buganda, the country’s largest traditional kingdom as one of those rescued from the mishap.
