Men of the Abia State Police Command on Tuesday arrested 51 Jewish worshippers who were on a peaceful protest in Umuahia.
The protesters, who were agitating for a Jewish nation in Nigeria carried the insignia of Biafra and waved Israeli flags as they marched through the streets of Umuahia in their hundreds and as early as 9.00 am.
Starting from Afaraukwu, the hometown of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), the placard-carrying protesters marched to Isi Gate, the city center through the popular Akanu Ibiam Road.
Confirming the march and the arrest of some of the protesters, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Geoffrey Ogbonna said 51 persons comprising ten females and 41 males were arrested with Biafra insignia. Ogbonna further explained that only those found with Biafra emblems were arrested.
