The Nigeria Police on Tuesday said its operatives have re-arrested alleged kidnapping kingpin, Alhaji Hamish Balance Wadume.

A statement issued by the Police spokesman, DCP Frank Mba said Wadume was arrested in the late hours of Monday in his hideout at Layin Mai Allo in the Hotoro area of Kano City.

Mba recalled how the Police Force had been on Wadume’s trail since August 6 following the unfortunate incident in which three police operatives who had gone to arrest him and two civilians were shot dead by soldiers on the road leading from Ibi in Taraba State .

Three other occupants of the official bus conveying the operatives were critically injured while Wadume, the suspect at the centre of the entire drama who was in handcuffs on the bus ‘misteriously’ escaped unhurt.

“The suspect, who was appropriately restrained at the time of the incident was subsequently released by his ‘rescuers ‘after they had destroyed the restraining handcuffs,” the statement said.

The statement added that the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu believes that the re-arrest of Wadume will help in bringing answers to the numerous unanswered questions relating to the incident and the larger criminal enterprise of the suspect.

Recall that Wadume, a high profile kidnap kingpin escaped on August 6 when soldiers attached to 93 Battalion, Takum attacked undercover policemen of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) who were conveying him to the Command’s headquarters in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital.
