The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), David Lyon, has been declared winner of the Bayelsa governorship election. INEC’s Returning Officer, Prof. Faraday Orumwense, announced this at the INEC Collation Centre in Yenagoa.
David Lyon defeated Douye Diri, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in six out of eight locals government areas in the state. Lyon polled 352,552 votes while Diri scored 143,172.
This is the first time in the history of the South-South state that the APC has taken control of the government. Bayelsa is the home state of immediate past President, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.
