Legendary basketball player, Kobe Bryant has died in an helicopter crash. He was travelling with four other people in his private helicopter when it went down near the city of Calabasas in California.
The cause of the crash is under investigation. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s officials said there were no survivors.
He is survived by his wife Vanessa, and their four daughters.
Kobe is widely considered one of the greatest NBA players of all time — making 18 All-Star teams during his 20 year career with the Los Angeles Lakers. He was a first-round pick in the 1996 draft, winning five NBA championships, two NBA Finals MVPs and he was the league MVP in ’08.
The crash came only hours after the 41-year-old former Los Angeles Lakers star was surpassed into third position by current Lakers star, LeBron James on the all-time NBA scoring list in a Saturday game in Philadelphia.
The Lakers famously retired both of Kobe’s jerseys, number 8 and 24– the only player in team history to receive that honor.
He also was a two-time Olympic gold medalist, winning the titles in 2008 in Beijing and 2012 in London.
He won an Oscar for his short film, “Dear Basketball,” in 2018.
