The Supreme Court has dismissed the application by the All Progressives Congress seeking it to review its judgement on the 2019 governorship election in Zamfara State.

In a majority ruling on Friday, four members of a five-member panel, led by the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Ibrahim Muhammad, dismissed the application on the grounds that it was without merit. The judgement was delivered by Justice Inyang Okoro.

Justice Okoro held that the Supreme Court lacks the jurisdiction to entertain an application seeking a review of its own judgment as the finality of the judgment of the Supreme Court is sealed and cannot be reviewed under any guise.

The apex court also awarded the cost of N2m to be paid by the applicant to the 1st to 140th respondents.

The apex court had in an earlier judgement nullified the victory of the APC in the Zamfara governorship, national assembly and state assembly elections on the ground that the state did not conduct a valid primary.
