At least three people have died and 15 injured in a terror attack in Vienna, Austria’s interior minister, Karl Nehammer announced in a press conference early on Tuesday.
Gunmen with computerized weapons opened fire at six places in central Vienna on Monday night.
One gunman has been shot lifeless by police, wheareas a minimum of one assailant stays on the run. Authorities are urging the general public to keep inside whereas a manhunt is underway.
The attackers have been “very well equipped” with computerized weapons and “professionally prepared,” according to Austria’s Chancellor Sebastian Kurz.
However, authorities have thus far discouraged all hypothesis as to the attackers’ potential motive.
The shooting began just hours before Austria was to re-impose a coronavirus lockdown, with people out in bars and restaurants enjoying a final night of relative freedom.
