Dr Anthony Ejike Anigbo is a unique medical practitioner. Through medical philanthropy, he has touched hundreds of lives positively.

Anigbo who is the founder and Medical Director of Syd – Monic Hospital which is located at Ago – Palace Way in the Okota – Isolo area of Lagos is also the founder of Syd – Monic Foundation.

With the establishment of Syd – Monic Foundation, Dr, Anthony Anigbo has made a major contribution to medical undertakings in Nigeria. The foundation is a charity which is dedicated to helping those in need of medical interventions but with little or no fund to finance the treatment procedures including surgeries. It also aims to propagate preventive medicine with screenings and counselling for vaccinations against preventable diseases.

Over 500 people from different parts of the country participated in the first edition of the Medical and Surgical Outreach in November 2019 for a period of five days at the hospital’s physical address at Ago Palace Way, Ago – Okota, Lagos with surgical interventions in fibroid removal(myomectomy) and hysterectomy done for over 50 women; lipoma removal for over 10 patients, hernia repair (herniorraphy) done for over 25 patients, excision biopsy, breast lumpectomy done for over 10 women, surgery for undescended testes for boys between the ages of 18 months to two years as well as thyroidectomy for goitre removal for 5 patients. The Foundation also did free weight and body mass index check, blood pressure check, cholesterol check, Hepatitis B screening, blood sugar test, free medical consultation and distribution of free antimalarial drugs.

The 2020 edition of the program with over 800 participants witnessed the addition of cataract surgeries for five patients, cervical screening for women between the ages of 25 and 45years, pap smear for women aged 50 years and above, fertility test for couples including semen anaylsis for men and pelvic scan for women as well as blood group and genotype test. Other outreach events have been organized in partnership with various groups and in different communities.

Dr. Anthony Anigbo and Syd-Monic team’s ultimate vision is to ensure that the most vulnerable and at-risk groups in our society are safe and have their basic needs taken care of. The team’s desire is to promote health and well-being and prevent disease, disability and death. For those who do not even have the basic knowledge of their health status, the foundation also provides solutions to inform, counsel and help improve their living conditions.

Dr. Anigbo Anthony’s hobbies includes reading and drumming. He is a problem-solver, a philanthropist, a transparent and honest person, a cheerful giver, a jovial man, a tireless achiever, lover of truth, and a highly compassionate man.

His tremendous success in the health sector is due to referrals and recommendations from satisfied clients and patients. His acumen, expertise, insight, knowledge, and listening ear have earned his brand — Syd-Monic, the reputation for high-level medical professionalism and remarkable charity service in the society.

Anthony Anigbo who comes from Abagana in Anambra State began his education at Orisigun Primary School in 1984. He then attended Matori Grammar School, Isolo, Lagos between 1990 to 1996. He graduated from the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, Lagos with an MBBS in Medicine and Surgery in 2006 having been admitted in the year 1999.

He had extensive seminars and update courses at the Faculty of Internal Medicine, National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria in 2011 and also in 2016. He also had an update course at The West African College of Physicians in 2015.

Dr Anthony Anigbo is a member of the Nigerian Medical Association and the Association of General and Private Medical Practitioners of Nigeria (AGPMPN) Lagos State, Nigeria. He is a member of the Medical College of Physicians, the Catholic Doctors Association, the Catholic Chaplaincy Centre, CMUL/LUTH and the Abagana Welfare Union Lagos Branch.

His medical career began in 2007 as a House officer at Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, Ogun state, and then as Medical Officer at the State General Hospital, Ighoho, Oyo State where he served in the NYSC programme between April, 2009 and April 2014. Anigbo worked as a Medical Officer with Royal Maha Hospital, Maryland, Lagos and then at Sonaen Hospital, Okota, Isolo  before he proceeded to work as a resident doctor at  the Department of Medicine, Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba, Lagos in 2014.

As a general practitioner, services he offers and/or coordinates include general medical practice, medical and health check-ups, diagnosis and treatment, information and advice, health and nutrition advice, coordinating healthcare, prescription of medications, ordering of screening and medical tests, early intervention for those at risk, management of acute and chronic conditions, referrals to specialist health professionals, and workers’ compensation.

Syd-Monic Hospital and Diagnostic Centre was established in November 2014 with the hospital largely staffed by professional physicians, surgeons, nurses, sonographers, laboratory scientists, pharmacist and other allied healthcare practitioners. Services offered include Outpatient and Inpatient Medical and Surgical Services, Diagnosis and Treatment, Emergency Services, Paediatric/Immunization Services, Obstetrics and Gynaecology services including Antenatal and Delivery Services, Pharmacy, and Diagnostic Services (Ultrasound and Standard Medical Laboratory) among others.

Dr. Anthony Anigbo is married to Mrs. Mary Anigbo (BNSs, RN/RM), a professional nurse with over 15 years clinical and administrative experience. Mrs. Mary Anigbo is the Head Nurse, Syd-Monic Hospital and Executive Director, Syd-Monic Foundation. Their marriage is blessed with four wonderful children.

It is in recognition of his contribution to national development in the field of Human Medicine and Medical Philanthropy that Dr Anthony Ejike Anigbo was deemed worthy to be conferred with the Development in Nigeria Merit Award which is part of the 2021 PSR National Awards.
