The Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigations Department, DIG Joseph Obiajulu Egbunike is dead.
Sources say Mr Egbunike died on Tuesday evening after he slumped in his office. The police have, however, yet to announce the death and the police spokesperson could not be reached Wednesday morning.
DIG Egbunike only recently headed the Special Investigation Panel which investigated the alleged involvement of suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr Abba Kyari over the $1.1million Hushpuppi internet fraud.
Egbunike who had previously served as the DIG in charge of Finance and Administration, before he was appointed DIG Investigation, hails from Onitsha in Anambra State and is the DIG overseeing the South-East geo-political zone.
