Vice President Yemi Osinbajo took charge of a special Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting held at the State House on Monday, marking two weeks until the current administration’s conclusion. President Muhammadu Buhari, still on medical grounds in London, delegated the meeting’s leadership to the Vice President.

The purpose of the special FEC gathering was to address a backlog of over 30 memos from various government ministries and agencies. As the administration approaches its conclusion this week, these pending memos required prompt attention. Notable attendees included Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha; National Security Adviser, Major General Babagana Monguno (rtd); and Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Folashade Yemi-Esan.

Several ministers also participated, such as Festus Keyamo (Minister of State for Labor and Employment), Abubakar Malami (Minister of Justice), Zainab Ahmed (Minister of Finance), Rauf Aregbesola (Minister of Interior), Sadiya Umar (Minister of Humanitarian Affairs), Isa Pantami (Minister of Communications and Digital Economy), among others.

President Muhammadu Buhari is expected to return to Nigeria on Tuesday and will chair Wednesday’s council meeting. The May 29 handover date draws near, and the administration’s activities during this transitional period hold significance for the nation’s governance.
