President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has issued a suspension order against Godwin Emefiele, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). The directive was made public through a statement released by the Director of Information at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Willie Bassey, on Friday.
“This is sequel to the ongoing investigation of his office and the planned reforms in the financial sector of the economy.
According to the statement issued by Bassey, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has suspended the Central Bank Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele, CFR, from office with immediate effect.” The directive also included instructions for Emefiele to hand over the responsibilities of his position to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate) until the investigation is concluded and the planned reforms are implemented.
