President Bola Tinubu has officially sworn-in Senator George Akume as the new Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) in a concise ceremony held at the council chamber. The event, graced by dignitaries, including current and former Governors, witnessed Senator Akume taking his Oath of Allegiance and Oath of Office.

Among the prominent attendees were Vice President Kashim Shettima, President of the Senate Ahmed Lawan, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State, Dr Folasade Yemi-Esan, Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, and Mrs Regina Akume, the spouse of the newly appointed SGF.

This swearing-in ceremony comes merely five days after President Tinubu announced the appointment of Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, as the Chief of Staff. Simultaneously, Sen. Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia, a former Deputy Governor of Jigawa State, was named as the Deputy Chief of Staff.

During a meeting with the Progressives Governors Forum (PGF), President Tinubu also appointed the former Governor of Benue State and immediate past Minister of Special Duties to the role of Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF). This appointment takes immediate effect, signifying the swift and decisive actions taken by the new President.

The installation of Senator Akume as the SGF underlines President Tinubu’s commitment to assembling a capable team of experienced individuals to support his administration. The SGF assumes a crucial position within the government structure, responsible for overseeing the coordination and execution of key governmental activities.
