In a recent media chat, the Lagos State government revealed a comprehensive set of policy measures aimed at alleviating the challenges faced by residents amidst the current difficult times. The announcement, made earlier today, outlined over 10 initiatives supported by data and designed to have an immediate impact on the well-being of Lagosians.

Among the key measures highlighted by the government is the implementation of flexible work policies for Levels 1-13 civil servants, which will see a transition to a 3-day work week. This move reflects the government’s commitment to promoting workforce well-being and providing relief to employees.

Furthermore, the government announced a 25% reduction in transport fares for the State Public Transport system, including BRT, Train, and Ferry services. This reduction is expected to inject over ₦500 million monthly back into the pockets of Lagosians, with additional transportation options set to become available with the upcoming launch of the Red Line Rail.

In response to rising food prices, the government plans to establish Sunday Markets across 42 identified locations throughout the state, offering essential food items at affordable rates not exceeding the N25,000 threshold. These initiatives aim to serve over 500,000 Lagosians and mitigate the impact of inflation on food affordability.

Healthcare initiatives were also highlighted, including free childbirth services for over 50,000 women annually at the State’s General Hospitals and secondary health facilities, along with the distribution of free hypertensive medications to those in need.

The government emphasized its commitment to ensuring a safer Lagos through the demolition of over 200 unsafe structures, prioritizing the safety of over 1 million residents. Additionally, significant improvements have been made in areas such as Obalende, Oshodi, Agege, and Ijora, underscoring the government’s dedication to maintaining law and order.

In line with efforts to enhance security, the Lagos Neighbourhood Agency is set to increase its personnel to over 5000 officers, with plans for further expansion pending approval for full state policing from the Federal Government.

Regarding housing rights, the Lagos State Real Estate Regulatory Authority has successfully resolved over 1,000 tenant-landlord disputes, demonstrating the government’s commitment to fairness in housing for all residents.

Infrastructure development remains a top priority, with plans to commence work on 180 inner roads across various local government areas. Additionally, groundbreaking for the 4th Mainland Bridge is scheduled for April, marking a significant milestone in the state’s progress and economic growth.

Partnerships with neighboring states such as Ogun and Oyo are also being strengthened to facilitate collaborative projects and disaster response efforts.

As the government continues to explore innovative solutions to address current challenges, residents are urged to unite and remain resilient during this period of transformation. Updates on additional initiatives will be provided as they develop, reaffirming the government’s commitment to the well-being and prosperity of all Lagosians.
