In a dramatic turn of events at the Edo State House of Assembly, Speaker Blessing Agbebaku has wielded the gavel of authority, suspending three lawmakers amidst swirling allegations of an impeachment plot aimed at ousting him and other Principal Officers Council (POC) members from their positions.

The suspended lawmakers, identified as Donald Okogbe (PDP Akoko-Edo 11), Bright Iyamu (PDP Orihonmwon South), and Adeh Isibor (Esan North East 1), faced the immediate consequence of their alleged involvement in a purported scheme to destabilize the leadership of the house.

During a tense sitting at the assembly complex on Monday, Speaker Agbebaku stood firm in his decision, attributing the suspension to claims that external forces were instigating the trio to sow discord and orchestrate the removal of the house leadership.

In a startling revelation, Agbebaku further alleged that individuals had resorted to mysticism, claiming that native doctors were smuggled into the assembly premises under the cloak of darkness on May 1, 2024, to perform occult rituals and deposit charms within the complex.

Responding to their suspension amidst the chaotic session, the affected lawmakers vehemently rejected the unilateral action taken by the speaker, asserting their rights as elected representatives.

“Mr. Speaker, you do not have the right to unilaterally suspend any member(s) of the house. You must call for votes. Allow members to vote on the matter,” shouted the suspended lawmakers amid the uproar.
