The Kaduna State House of Assembly has called for an investigation into former Governor Nasir El-Rufai following the submission of a comprehensive report by an ad-hoc committee tasked with examining loans, grants, and project implementations from 2015 to 2023. During a plenary session on Wednesday, the committee’s chairman, Henry Zacharia, presented the findings, which implicated El-Rufai and recommended a thorough probe.
The report alleges that due processes were not followed in securing several loans during El-Rufai’s tenure. The former governor and his commissioners are accused of multiple offences, including abuse of office, awarding contracts without proper procedures, diverting public funds, money laundering, and engaging in excessive borrowing that left the state heavily indebted.
Zacharia stated that the Assembly must ensure accountability and transparency in managing public funds. The committee’s report urges security operatives and anti-graft agencies to investigate El-Rufai and the implicated officials further. It also recommends the immediate suspension of Shizer Badda, the Kaduna State Commissioner of Finance, and the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board, pending the outcome of these investigations.
