The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended Senator Dino Melaye, a prominent member, due to alleged anti-party activities. According to a letter cited by Punch Online on Friday, the suspension was initiated by the Ayetoro/Iluagba Ward 1 executive committee following a review of the disciplinary committee’s report, which investigated Melaye’s conduct.
The resolution stated that Senator Melaye’s behavior had caused embarrassment and disrepute to the party, rendering his membership untenable. The Ward party executives invoked Article 59 (1) of the PDP constitution, which grants them the authority to discipline members found in violation of party rules.
The letter highlighted that Melaye had been summoned to appear before the Disciplinary Committee on August 20, 2024, to respond to accusations of misconduct, but he failed to attend, showing disregard for the party’s leadership. Consequently, the committee concluded that his actions violated the PDP’s constitution and principles of discipline, leading to his immediate suspension.
The resolution emphasized the need for party members to uphold discipline and loyalty to ensure unity and success in future elections.
