Ghana’s Electoral Commission (EC) has announced the certified voter register for the December 7, 2024, general election, confirming a total of 18,774,159 eligible voters.
According to a statement from the EC on Tuesday, the voter list includes three categories:
- Biometrically Registered Voters: 18,640,811 voters with biometric data, who will undergo biometric verification on Election Day.
- Special Voters: 131,478 personnel, including members of security agencies, media, and EC officials, who will vote early due to Election Day duties.
- Voters Without Biometric Data: 1,870 voters whose biometric data was corrupted, requiring manual verification on Election Day.
The EC also announced the closure of several polling stations that did not meet the minimum voter threshold, with voters from these stations reassigned to nearby polling locations to ensure full participation. This adjustment led to the exclusion of 884 individuals from the Absent Voter list, though their records remain securely stored within the Voter Management System for accountability.
The election will see former President John Mahama, 65, and current Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, 60, vying for the presidency alongside eleven other candidates, as President Nana Akufo-Addo concludes his second term.
