Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene and caution the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, over an alleged plot to incite chaos in the state.
Speaking at a press briefing on Sunday, Adeleke accused his predecessor of directing security agencies, including the police and the Department of State Services (DSS), to enforce a “non-existent judgment” by forcefully reinstating sacked local government chairmen. He warned that such actions could destabilize the state and urged Tinubu to uphold the rule of law.
Adeleke clarified that the dismissed local government officials were removed by a Federal High Court ruling before he assumed office, contrary to claims that his administration was responsible. He emphasized that any dissatisfaction with the ruling should be addressed through legal appeals rather than forceful takeovers. The governor also called on the National Security Adviser and the Attorney General of the Federation to verify that the Court of Appeal did not reinstate the affected officials.
In response, the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) dismissed Adeleke’s claims, accusing him of attempting to evade legal procedures. APC spokesperson Kola Olabisi denied any unlawful directives from Oyetola, stating that Adeleke should challenge the ruling at the Supreme Court if he disagreed with it. He maintained that the court had rightfully reinstated the local government officials and that the APC would ensure the ruling was implemented while remaining law-abiding.
