The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has announced that the rehabilitation of the Kaduna Refinery and Petrochemicals Company (KDPRC) has surpassed 60% mechanical completion. The update was provided by Isiyaku Abdullahi, NNPCL’s Executive Vice President (Downstream), during an engagement session with Kannywood artists in Abuja on February 11, 2025.

Abdullahi reaffirmed the company’s commitment to restoring operations at the refinery within the year. “Kaduna, in sha Allah, should come on stream this year. We are working tirelessly on the pipelines. We are doing in-house projects; we have gone more than 60% of mechanical completion,” he stated.

Established in 1980, the Kaduna Refinery has been non-operational for several years, forcing Nigeria to rely heavily on imported petroleum products. The ongoing rehabilitation is part of NNPCL’s broader strategy to revamp domestic refining capacity and reduce dependency on fuel imports.

In addition to the Kaduna Refinery, NNPCL is also rehabilitating the Port Harcourt and Warri refineries to bring them up to global standards and enhance Nigeria’s energy security.
