Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has returned to Port Harcourt following his reinstatement by President Bola Tinubu, marking the end of six months of emergency rule in the state.
Fubara arrived at the Port Harcourt International Airport around 11:50 a.m. on Friday to a rousing welcome from hundreds of supporters who had gathered at the VIP wing of the airport in anticipation of his return.
The governor’s reinstatement comes just over 24 hours after Tinubu announced the suspension of emergency measures in Rivers, paving the way for the restoration of democratic governance in the state.
Although the Rivers State House of Assembly resumed sitting on Thursday, Fubara had yet to appear at the Government House despite the large crowd of loyalists who had assembled there to receive him.
His return is expected to set the stage for renewed political activities in the state and end months of uncertainty surrounding the leadership crisis.
