The Federal Government has appointed Dr. John Nwabueze as Nigeria’s new Tax Ombudsman under the Joint Revenue Board of Nigeria Act, 2025.
The appointment, announced on Monday, is part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s broader tax and revenue reform agenda aimed at improving transparency, efficiency, and fairness in Nigeria’s fiscal administration.
Dr. Nwabueze, who hails from Oshimili South in Delta State, brings decades of experience spanning both the public and private sectors. He previously served as Managing Partner at a leading tax advisory firm, Technical Adviser to the Senate Committees on the Federal Capital Territory and Finance, and as Adviser to the Chief Economic Adviser to former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
As Tax Ombudsman, Dr. Nwabueze will be responsible for addressing taxpayer grievances, promoting accountability among revenue agencies, and strengthening trust between the government and citizens in tax administration.
