President Bola Tinubu has expressed sympathy with traders following a fire that destroyed over 1,000 shops and killed at least seven people at Singer Market in Kano.
Sources say that losses from the inferno were estimated at over N5 billion.
Emergency responders and security agencies remain at the scene to determine the cause of the fire.
In a statement, presidential aide Bayo Onanuga said Tinubu had contacted Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf for a situation report and ordered a comprehensive investigation, noting that the incident followed a similar fire at the market weeks earlier.
Singer Market is a major trading centre in Kano State and has suffered repeated fire outbreaks in recent months.
