The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has assured Nigerians living in the Middle East that the Federal Government is taking steps to protect their safety amid escalating regional tensions.
In a statement on Tuesday, NiDCOM’s Director of Media, Public Relations and Protocols, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, said authorities were closely monitoring developments and responding to concerns from citizens abroad.
He disclosed that the commission had received enquiries from Nigerians in Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Iran regarding possible evacuation plans.
According to the statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is working with relevant agencies to take appropriate measures, while advising Nigerians in affected countries to follow official travel advisories and contact emergency lines when necessary.
“Nigerians in affected countries should be rest assured that the federal government is monitoring the situation and will take necessary steps to ensure no Nigerian life is endangered,” the statement said.
On Saturday, the Federal Government had urged Nigerians in the Middle East, particularly in Iran, to take extra security precautions following rising tensions in the region.
In a separate advisory, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on citizens to remain vigilant, avoid strategic and military locations, and stay alert to their surroundings.
“We wish to assure the general public that the safety and well-being of Nigerian citizens abroad remains the top priority of the Federal Government,” the ministry said, while also urging parties involved in the conflict to de-escalate.
The warning followed military strikes on Iran by the United States and Israel, which were met with retaliatory attacks by Iranian forces, including strikes in parts of the Gulf region.
