Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The announcement was made on Monday at the Government House in Gusau by the Deputy Governor, Mani Mummuni, who represented the governor.
Mummuni said the decision followed extensive consultations with political stakeholders across the state and was endorsed during a meeting held at the Rescue Hall, Government House, Gusau. According to him, the consultations were initiated by the governor to review the political situation in the state.
He explained that the defection was prompted by the deepening internal crisis within the PDP and the need to foster stronger unity to address Zamfara’s security and development challenges.
The deputy governor added that stakeholders advised the governor to align with the ruling party’s “Renewed Hope” agenda to promote stability, progress and development in the state and the country.
He also urged supporters and political stakeholders across Zamfara to register with the APC as the party opens its e-registration platform to strengthen its membership base.
Mummuni said the move reflects the governor’s commitment to unity, stability and accelerated development for the people of the state.
