The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has approved the promotion of 2,339 personnel in its 2025 Senior Staff Promotion Exercise, reaffirming its commitment to career development, institutional continuity and organisational stability.
The decision was reached at the commission’s meeting held on February 26, 2026, according to a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja by INEC’s Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Victoria Eta-Messi.
Under the exercise, 82 chief officers on Grade Levels 14–15 were promoted to the rank of assistant directors, while 91 assistant directors on Grade Levels 15–16 were elevated to deputy directors.
At the directorate level, 45 deputy directors on Grade Levels 16–17 were promoted to directors. Of this number, 18 will remain in active service, while 27 are expected to retire shortly after their promotion, in line with public service regulations.
The promotion exercise also covered 2,121 intermediate officers on Grade Levels 07–13 across various departments of the commission.
“In all, the promotions cut across multiple cadres and were conducted in accordance with established guidelines and extant public service rules,” the statement said.
INEC noted that the exercise reflects its resolve to reward merit, dedication and years of service, while strengthening leadership capacity within the organisation, especially as preparations continue for future electoral activities.
