President Bola Tinubu has nominated Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of State for Finance, subject to Senate confirmation.
The nomination was announced on Tuesday by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, who said the President had forwarded Oyedele’s name to Senate President Godswill Akpabio for approval.
Oyedele is set to replace Doris Uzoka-Anite, who has been redeployed to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning as Minister of State, marking her third portfolio in the Tinubu administration.
Uzoka-Anite was first appointed Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment in August 2023 and later redeployed to the finance ministry in October 2024.
Oyedele previously served as Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, a position he assumed in July 2023. He is also a fiscal policy partner and Africa tax leader at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he began his career in 2001.
A public policy expert, accountant and economist, Oyedele holds an HND from Yaba College of Technology and a BSc in applied accounting from Oxford Brookes University. He also undertook executive programmes at the London School of Economics, Yale University, and the Harvard Kennedy School.
He is a professor at Babcock University and a visiting scholar at the Lagos Business School.
Oyedele played a key role in designing Nigeria’s recent tax reforms, including four major tax bills passed by the National Assembly and signed into law in June 2025. The new tax regime, which took effect on January 1, 2026, aims to boost revenue generation, improve the business climate, and attract local and foreign investment.
His nomination comes months after the implementation of the reforms, widely seen as one of the administration’s flagship economic policies. If confirmed, Oyedele is expected to play a central role in deepening fiscal reforms and strengthening public finance management.
