The Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal has affirmed the reinstatement of 455 senior police officers, dismissing an appeal filed by the Police Service Commission.

The appellate court upheld an earlier judgment of the National Industrial Court, which ruled that the officers’ retirement was unlawful and ordered their reinstatement with full salaries and allowances.

The suit, instituted by ACP Chinedu Emengaha and others, challenged the mass retirement carried out in January 2025, which the court found to be in violation of due process.

A three-member panel of the Court of Appeal dismissed the appeal in its entirety, thereby affirming all aspects of the lower court’s decision.

The ruling follows a previous decision in March 2026, when the court struck out a separate appeal by police authorities, describing it as lacking merit.
