The Lagos State Government has announced the emergency closure of the outbound carriageway of the Eko Bridge leading to Lagos Island for safety investigations and repair works.
The closure will take effect from Tuesday, May 12, 2026, according to the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi.
Osiyemi advised motorists travelling through Apongbon and Ijora Olopa to make use of the Third Mainland Bridge as an alternative route during the repair period.
He, however, stated that the inward Lagos Island carriageway of the bridge would remain open to traffic.
“Adequate traffic and security personnel will be deployed along alternative routes to guide motorists and ensure smooth traffic flow,” the commissioner said.
