The Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, has recorded major operational successes after intelligence-led airstrikes neutralised several terrorists and disrupted bandit movements in Niger and Kaduna states.

In a statement, the task force said its Air Component carried out a precision strike on June 29 after credible intelligence revealed that more than 200 suspected terrorists on motorcycles had converged in the Dogon Dawa area of Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State. Aerial surveillance confirmed the terrorists’ presence before the airstrike targeted a suspected refuelling point, killing several insurgents and forcing others to flee with injuries.

The military said the operation significantly degraded the terrorists’ operational capability and prevented them from regrouping for further attacks.

In a separate operation in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State, the Air Component intercepted three motorcycles conveying suspected bandits believed to be heading towards the Kamuku Forest to launch reprisal attacks against troops. The suspects attempted to evade detection but were successfully engaged, while subsequent reconnaissance missions found no further suspicious activity in the area.

Operation FANSAN YAMMA said the operations demonstrate the effectiveness of coordinated air and ground offensives against terrorist and bandit networks across the North-West, adding that sustained military operations will continue until criminal enclaves are dismantled and lasting peace is restored in the region.
