The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has directed all public primary and secondary school teachers in Oyo State to embark on an indefinite strike beginning Monday, June 1, 2026, over the continued captivity of abducted teachers and pupils in the state.

In a statement signed by the Oyo State NUT Chairman, Comrade Hassan Fatai, the union said the action was intended to draw government attention to the urgent need to secure the victims’ release.

The NUT noted that the prolonged detention of the abductees has created fear among teachers, discouraged school attendance, and heightened anxiety in affected communities.

The union urged members to comply fully with the directive, remain law-abiding, and stay safe at home during the strike period.

It also expressed solidarity with the abducted teachers, pupils, and their families, while pledging to continue engaging relevant authorities until the victims regain their freedom.
